Interlaken, lying at the foot of Jungfrau Mountain, located between the lakes of Brienz and Thun is the departure point of different excursions, one of which is the Jungfraujoch -- "Top of Europe." Interlaken is the cultural and social centre of the Bernese Oberland. This city has also developed into a world famous lakeside-resort.

Interlaken has a reputation as an incredible summer resort. But Interlaken is also chock-full of charm in winter. Winter guests not only profit from lower hotel rates but also value being able to choose a different ski region every day. Winter guests are spoilt for choice. The comfortable, convenient and free ski bus takes just 30 minutes to carry guests from Interlaken to the valley stations of the Jungfrau Region, an amazing winter sports arena boasting over 45 mountain railways, aerial cableways, chairlifts and ski lifts. Interlaken also has plenty to offer non-skiers. Cross-country pistes, winter walking paths and winter cruises on Lake Thun make a stay in Winterlaken an exceptional experience.

Starting from Interlaken by train, you reach the highest railway station of Europe: The Jungfraujoch -- "Top of Europe." The train passes by the two famous ski slopes: the Lauberhorn and the Kleine Scheidegg. Then, the spectacular journey brings you up to an titleitude of 3,454 m, in the heart of the glacier world. Visit the Ice Palace and take advantage of the everlasting snow and the breathtaking view amongst these imposing mountains. Jungfraujoch is the most glaciated part of the Alps, containing Europe's largest glacier and a range of classic glacial features such as U-shaped valleys, cirques, horn peaks and moraines. The impressive vista of the North Wall of the High Alps, centred on the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau peaks, has played an important role in European art and literature.

The Jungfrau region means snow-covered mountain tops, lush green Alpine pastures, raging waterfalls, and more: colorful hang-gliders in the deep blue sky, white steamboats on turquoise waters, pulsating activity in the shopping streets. The Jungfrau region means countless opportunities for day trips on water or dry land, for walking, cycling, swimming, windsurfing, sailing, for experiencing unforgettable adventures such as tandem paragliding, for window shopping and culinary enjoyment. The Jungfrau region means all of the above, but especially: superlative mountain cableway and railway rides.

The ski resorts of the Jungfrau region lie directly below the world-famous backdrop of the Eiger, the Monch and the Jungfrau. As a ski area, the Jungfrau Region lacks for nothing. The aforementioned spectacular mountains The Eiger, The Monch and The Jungfrau reach to just about 4,000 m and provide a spectacular backdrop for some of the most extensive and varied skiing in Europe.

Attractions on the Jungfraujoch: Ice Palace; Ice Gateway; Sphinx observation terrace; "Top of Europe" Glacier Restaurant; The Great Aletsch Glacier, the longest ice-stream in the Alps.
