Day 1 Arrival
Arrive at Tunxi (downtown of Huangshan City) in the afternoon or in the evening. Meet our driver and be transferred to Huishang International Hotel Hotel (4 star).
Day 2 Tunxi - Huangshan Scenic Area (B, L, D)
This morning we drive one and half hours to the World Heritage Site of Mount Huangshan, one of China's most famously scenic mountain landscapes. With its imposing peaks, mysterious clouds, and ancient wind-sculpted pines, Huangshan has inspired painters and poets for centuries. The famed Chinese poet Li Po gave the range its name, Yellow Mountain, in 747 AD. The range has more than 70 peaks, most over 3,000 feet. We'll take Yungu Cable-car up Huangshan from the eastern steps. Enjoy the spectacular views at the Beginning-to-believe Peak, Flower-scattering Valley, Lion Peak. In the afternoon, we head to explore some sections of the Grand Canyon, which has relatively fewer visitors than the main trails and offers breathtaking scenery. These are some of the most remarkable trails you'll ever see, including Flying-over Rock, Bright-summit. Stay in Beihai/Shilin Hotel (4 star).
Day 3 Huangshan Scenic Area (B, L, D)
Huangshan is famed for its sunrise. Weather permitting, we should gaze upon a breathtaking sight this morning as the golden light of the sun pierces the mists. The mountain peaks rise above the clouds, and the light of sunrise illuminates a frothy, ever-changing sea of white clouds below. We can watch this spectacle from a viewing terrace a short distance from our hotel. After sunrise, we bid farewell to Huangshan and descend the mountain by its Western Route (Xi Xian), a steeper and longer hike (9 miles) best done as a descent. This route offers some of the most spectacular vistas of the mountain. Starting from our hotel, we climb a trail for about an hour to Guangming Ding (Bright Summit Peak), the second highest peak in the range, then continue 2.5 hours to Huangshan's highest summit, Lianhua Feng (Lotus Flower Peak) at 6,143 feet. Another half hour hiking brings us to Yingke Song (Welcoming Guests Pine), where a dramatically shaped pine - thought to be over 1,000 years old - extends a long branch as if greeting passers-by. We continue on a path called A Thread of Sky, with only a streak of sky visible above as we hike through a narrow cleft between large rock faces. We'll take Jade Screen Cable Car near Jade Screen Peak to descend mountain from the western steps. You may take at your own cost a hot spring bath at the mountain base for a relaxation. Stay in Haizhou International Hotel (4 star).
Day 4 Huangshan - Old Villages - Tunxi (B, L, D)
In the morning, we drive for about one hour to visit the World Heritage Site of Hongcun, one of the most photogenic villages in China, with its characteristic Anhui architecture set along the edge of Nan Lake. In the Song dynasty, the villagers of Hongcun constructed an irrigation canal that runs between each house, so virtually every household had easy access to water, providing a source of washing water as well as fire prevention. All of the houses in the village follow the ancient architectural style, with exquisite carvings and fine craftsmanship. This enchanting old village was used as a film location for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Later, we'll visit Nanping, an equally old village. Back to Tunxi in the afternoon and visit the Old Street, center of the old town section. Stay in Huangshan Yi'an Junlai Hotel.
Day 5 Tunxi - Shexian - Tunxi (B, L, D)
Today, we'll pay a visit to Shexian County, which is well known for its long history and profound culture. There you can experience the unique archway with eight pillars called Xuguo Archway, Doushan Street, Tangyue Archways - the only one in China and Tangmo Village. After seeing all those above, you may get some idea of the spirit of the architecture style in Ancient Huizhou Prefecture. Bus takes you back to Tunxi. Leave Huangshan City in the afternoon or after dinner.
